Part of this study looked at whether or not there was any link between lack of parental love in childhood and anxiety in later life.

The Surrey Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy examined 100 of its clients at random that underwent hypnotherapy for anxiety, between 2007 and 2010. The clients had either come for agoraphobic or social phobia types of issues. This included issues like fear of travelling, panic attacks, fear of driving on motorways, blushing, fear of crowded places, fear of public speaking, exam nerves, fear of talking in public and fear of being the centre of attention.

The results showed that 81% of the anxiety clients perceived that parental love had been missing, or withdrawn, before the age of 13.
